The Flu of 2008

Well, life came to a screeching halt last week.

The Bishops and Dangs both came down with the nastiest flu bug ever. All the Bishop household got sick, including a trip to the ER for Uncle Steven with way too many needles.

Mike and Matthew were hit hard on Monday. Tuesday, Caleb and Mom followed. The five Dangs loaded up in the car on Tuesday and in a tiny crowded exam room, the doctor told us Influenza A was the culprit. Mike and I were entirely, completely, & utterly miserable. We've not been this sick in decades. And we did not dare ask for help with the kids...we didn't want to pass this bug to our worst enemy. So Mike missed a week of work, and the boys got more than their fair share of Vitamin TV. And just when we thought we were done, Mommy felt her asthma flaring up on Friday. Long story short, by Saturday morning, she was in the ER and later admitted and spent two days at Overlake.

Lest anyone feel sorry for me, please...I got a vacation! I had full control of the remote. I had no diapers to change. I was waited on by the nursing staff. I got to spend time with my Dad and sister. Mike even brought me pastries. It was heaven. In the end, it was really a blessing cause I really needed some time to rest from taking care of the three boys the week before. Mike, on the other hand, finally had to do the midnight feeding.

And apparently, Kristina showed herself again to be courteous and thoughtful and waited until Mommy was better before she allowed herself to get the flu. Tuesday night, Mommy took her temp, and after talking with the nurse-on-call, packed up the baby and for the first time, took a child to the ER at Children's Hospital. After catheterizing her, suctioning her nose with a little vacuum, and giving her an IV, they declared her sick, but able to go home. Thankfully, within a day, she was better. Phew!!!

College Recruiting

College recruiting starts early in my family. Lest you think Mom and Dad are biasing her in any way, the Husky one will be posted as soon as she fits the t-shirt.

Go Mariners!

Auntie Katie got us tickets to the Mariner's game tonight, courtesy of her employer, Microsoft. So Mommy, Kristina (in the baby carrier), and Katie watched the M's loose, but we had a blast. Kristina was so cozy that she slept most of the time.
