Date Night

The all too rare occasion for a date night...in case anyone was remotely curious at what these kids' parents look like.

And for old time's sake. What did we look like on Thanksgiving 1998?

That's right. The correct answer is "exactly like they do now".

Matthew's 3rd Birthday

So what birthday, party or not, can be complete without a birthday cake? Everyone look now. Dana made a birthday cake. Pay attention cause it may never happen again.

Trust me, I was very cool mom for making a dino dig cake. Definitely.

Abby and Alyssa

(Don't you think this one will be cute at their wedding?)

Our friends, Abby and Alyssa, came to stay with us this week while their parents were enjoying themselves on a much deserved trip to Hawaii. Abby is a month older than Caleb. Alyssa is a few days younger than Kristina, so perfect. We all had a fantastic time together, although, I admit I didn't leave the house much.

It was all part of a grand scheme, though, their parents are taking our kids in November when we take a few days to celebrate our 10th year anniversary.

Caleb decided when he was 2 that Abby was the girl he would wed. Nothing lovey dovey, just a statement of fact. Although, they did have a few squabbles while she was here over how to pick up toys, and now Caleb just complains, "I need her to understand me!"

Memorial Day Weekend in Oregon

I'm not the kind to do things impulsively or last minute, but on Thursday when Mike told me his brother had invited us to join them on the Oregon coast for Memorial Day weekend, he knew I'd jump at the chance.

Mike's brother, John, and his wife, Brenda, live in Boise, so we rarely see them. We were so excited to be able to spend some time with them, and get out of the house for a few days!

The first thing we did was stop by the cemetery where my maternal grandparents and great-grandparents are buried in Portland. Since my grandfather had served in the Navy, it was an honor to see my kids place American flags on his grave. I think Mucky and Grandpa would have smiled to see their three great-grandkids come to pay them a visit.

Then it was off to the zoo...

Then we met up with our family in Lincoln City on Sunday. We went to the aquarium (I have no idea what happened to those photos), and played around on the beach. We had lots of fun with the cousins, Kyly and Katie, too!

The best party of any trip home.

The worst part, probably, was when we blew a tire just across the WA border on I-5. Mike changed it to a flat, but we soon learned:

1. Most tire shops are very patriotic and close on Memorial day.
2. Google maps is adamant that there is a Costco right in the middle of the Mt. St. Helens wilderness. We had a 20 m wild goose chase to prove it was wrong. Arg!
3. Walmart has absolutely anything you need, including spare underwear and tires!

Go Mariners! Happy Birthday, Matthew!

This year, in lieu of a big b-day party (three a year gets to be a bit much), we decided to have a family celebration at the Mariner's game for Matthew's birthday.

The kids had a blast at the kids' play area, walking around the stadium, but no one liked the Moose. Reactions ranged from Caleb's very cautious stance to Kristina screaming in a panic so loud we had to leave the area.

We lasted until the 8th inning. Unfortunately the M's couldn't manage a victory for our Matt, but we still had lots of fun. Our friends, Aaron and Crystal came, too. And the boys managed to learn "Take Me Out to the Ball Game".

Caleb carefully eyes the moose.

Kristina in abject horror at the sight of him.

Eee-tee

Ethan is a couple months older than Kristina, and currently is her best bud. She even said her version of his name, "Eee-tee", before she had a name for Caleb or Matthew.

His family came over tonight, and the two of them had a lot of fun together, and he apparently had a lot of fun with our sidewalk chalk.

Airborne...

My Dad and uncle's plane 19 years in the making finally took flight this week. And apparently took off in aviation news, frontlining the Experimental Aircraft Association's website and newsletter.

And the youTube video of the first flight...

My Little Evangelist

Matthew was helping me put Kristina down to sleep tonight. He brought her toys, juice, and anything else he could imagine she would want. Then he said, 'Mommy, sing song to be-be.'

I told him, "Matthew, you sing to her."

He sang in his little voice and stroked her baby cheek very delicately,

"Jesus loves me this I know,
For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to Him belong
They are weak but He is strong...

Yes, Jesus loves you
Yes, Jesus loves you
Yes, Jesus loves you,
The Bible tells me so..."

I loved how he changed the word to "you"...I then had him sing it later, and he sang it with "loves me"...so he definitely personalized it so his baby sister would know that Jesus loved her.
